Having raised three boys who are now adults, Vicki and Wade Lunday were ready to Real Wood Cabinets update their kitchen and add space to better accommodate the way they want to live. The Lundays brought in interior designer Tobi Fairley to ensure that creating a new kitchen didn’t mean sacrificing the traditional charm and character that infuse their Southern-style home. "Kitchen at a Glance The custom island is a great spot for prepping, serving and gathering with friends and family. The color choice for the island’s legs was inspired by nature. “The rural setting and all of the land around the home is very lush and green. The legs help to bring a bit of nature indoors, and it’s also a great Real Wood Cabinets classic color,” Fairley says. Fairley says that the biggest challenge of the project was achieving more space to accommodate the way the family lives. Luckily, there was a patio area outside the original kitchen that wasn’t being used, so it was absorbed into the new kitchen’s floor plan. This additional space allowed for both a kitchen island and a breakfast banquette. The kitchen is a big gathering area for the family, so Fairley wanted to be sure there Real Wood Cabinets was plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. The banquette helps maximize space." Michael Symon, restaurant owner, Iron Chef winner and star of The Chew and Symon's Suppers makes you feel like you know him the minute you see him on TV. Whether he's bantering with his buddies or cooking with passion and confidence, he's never stuffy or intimidating. You feel like he'd be a great teacher, because he wants you to love cooking as much as he does. Like cars, luxury appliances are about power, performance Real Wood Cabinets and looks, but a good cook can cook on anything. I wanted to know what appliances a chef like Symon wants in his own kitchen — and what he doesn't. So I asked him. "Chef: Michael Symon Q. And your ideal cooking appliance arrangement? Q. What do you think of open burners versus closed burners for a range top? Electric versus Real Wood Cabinets gas oven? A. Open gas burners over electric for sure. I love to see the heat as opposed to a dial telling me how hot it is. Electric ovens over gas — a more even heat that is great for baking and roasting.Q. What one extra kitchen cooking gadget would you suggest for a home cook? A. I don’t have one, but a steam oven would be great for home cooks — consistent heat, quicker cook times and more consistent results, and they're Real Wood Cabinets fantastic for roasting a chicken. Q. Would you do an induction cooktop as a replacement to gas — or as a supplement? A. Not a fan. Give me gas all the time — much easier to regulate, in my opinion. Q. What dishes would you cook to test-drive a new appliance?A. When someone is trying out for a job at one of our restaurants, which is called ""a stage,"" I have them prepare an omelet, scrambled eggs and sunny-side-up eggs Real Wood Cabinets on the burners, and a chicken in the oven. These dishes not only show how the appliance performs but are the best ways to see how skilled a cook is.KitchenLab | Rebekah Zaveloff InteriorsQ.
